For Buyers
How It Works
Art Inbound helps you discover original art that fits your space—without limiting your sense of discovery.
You share your size, budget, and style preferences, and artists respond with proposals that are both relevant and diverse. Instead of sorting through endless mismatches, you can explore a wide range of original work knowing everything you see is already aligned with your criteria—while still encountering pieces you might not have thought to look for on your own.
The Process
How does Art Inbound work?
Start by posting your project—upload photos of your space, along with your desired size, budget, and any style preferences.
Artists then submit up to two original works that fit your criteria. This creates a stream of proposals that is focused, high-quality, and varied, giving you room to discover something unexpected without feeling overwhelmed.
When you find a piece you love, you can accept the proposal and complete your purchase through our secure checkout.
What happens after I receive proposals?
You can review proposals at your own pace. Each includes images, dimensions, medium, and pricing.
You're free to explore broadly within your criteria—every piece you see is relevant, but the range of styles and approaches can still surprise you. Shortlist favorites or accept a proposal when you're ready. There's no obligation to choose.
How does payment work?
Your payment is held securely until your artwork is delivered.
Once the artist ships and provides tracking, a portion of the payment is released so they can cover shipping and send the work with confidence. The remaining balance is only released after delivery and your inspection period.
This ensures you don't fully pay until the artwork arrives as expected.
Who can bid on my project?
Every artist on Art Inbound is individually vetted before they can propose work. During the application process, each artist provides bills of sale documenting actual transactions at the sizes and price points relevant to their practice.
This means the artists bidding on your project have a proven track record of selling work at comparable sizes and budgets — not just artists who say they can deliver.
Shipping & Delivery
Who handles shipping?
Every artist in the ArtInbound community has committed to shipping in accordance with our layer protection packing standards outlined here. Artists carefully package and ship their work using professional standards.
They also insure the shipment for the full value of the artwork while it's in transit, protecting the piece as it travels to you. Art Inbound tracks the process and keeps everything moving smoothly.
How are shipping costs calculated?
Shipping is based on your location, the artist's location, and the size of the artwork.
You'll see one clear, all-in price at checkout—artwork plus shipping. There are no hidden fees.
When will my artwork ship?
Artists typically ship within 3–5 business days after payment is confirmed.
Once shipped, you'll receive tracking details and delivery updates in your dashboard.
Inspection & Returns
What is the inspection period?
Once your artwork is delivered, you'll have 48 hours from the carrier's delivery timestamp to inspect it and make sure everything is as expected.
This allows any issues to be identified and resolved quickly.
What should I do when my artwork arrives?
When your piece arrives:
- Check the outer packaging for visible damage
- Carefully unpack and keep all original materials
- Inspect the artwork closely
Then confirm receipt in your dashboard—or let us know if anything isn't right.
What if the artwork arrives damaged?
If your artwork arrives damaged, report it within the 48-hour window with photos of the packaging and the piece.
You won't be charged for a damaged artwork. We'll pause the transaction and work with the artist as they file a claim with their shipping carrier.
What if I don't like the artwork in person?
If the piece isn't right for your space, you may request a return within the 48-hour inspection period.
Return shipping and insurance are the buyer's responsibility, and the artwork must be sent back in its original condition and packaging. Once received, your refund for the artwork price will be processed. Original outbound shipping is non-refundable.
What if the artwork doesn't match the agreed specifications?
If the artwork differs from what was agreed (size, medium, or other key details), we'll step in to help you get it resolved.
You'll receive a full refund, and the artist will cover the cost of return shipping and insurance for the return shipment.
What happens if I don't take action within 48 hours?
After the inspection period, the artwork is considered accepted and the transaction is completed.
This ensures artists are paid promptly while keeping the process fair and predictable for both sides.
